Acceptable Use Policy
This platform serves a national purpose — helping Nigeria anticipate and respond to threats. Keeping it trustworthy, available and secure depends on everyone using it responsibly. This policy sets out, in plain terms, what is and is not acceptable, how to report a vulnerability, and what happens if the rules are broken.
Use the contents to jump to the parts most relevant to you.
Purpose & Scope
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) sets out the standards of conduct required of everyone who accesses or uses osprenigeria.gov.ngand the services of the Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience (“OSPRE”). It supplements, and should be read with, our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
Because OSPRE operates critical national early-warning infrastructure, protecting the integrity, availability and trustworthiness of this platform is a matter of public interest. By using the platform, you agree to this AUP.
Who This Applies To
This AUP applies to all users — members of the public submitting reports or requesting resources, partners, and authorised staff — and to any automated agent accessing the platform on your behalf. You are responsible for all activity conducted through your access.
Permitted Use
You may use the platform for lawful purposes consistent with its mission, including to:
- Access information, analysis, alerts and publications provided for public use;
- Submit good-faith reports of threats, incidents or early-warning indicators;
- Request resources, partnership or contact through the provided channels;
- Use authorised accounts strictly within the scope for which access was granted.
Prohibited Conduct
You must not use the platform to do, attempt, or facilitate any of the following:
- False or malicious reporting. Submit knowingly false, misleading, fabricated or malicious reports, or impersonate any person, agency or authority.
- Unauthorised access. Access, or attempt to access, any account, system, network, data or non-public area without authorisation, including probing, scanning or testing vulnerabilities.
- Disruption. Introduce malware; interfere with, degrade or overload the platform; or circumvent, disable or defeat security controls, authentication, or rate limits.
- Data misuse. Scrape, harvest, mass-download or systematically extract data or content except as expressly permitted; or re-identify anonymised data.
- Unlawful or harmful content. Upload, submit or transmit content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, obscene, infringing, or that violates the privacy or rights of others.

Some conduct is a criminal offence
Standards for Reports & Submissions
The reporting channel exists to protect people. Use it responsibly: report only in good faith and to the best of your knowledge, do not flood or spam it, and do not use it to harass or target any individual. We may verify, redact, prioritise, publish (in sanitised form) or decline any submission, and we handle anonymous reports as described in our Privacy Policy.
Responsible Security Disclosure
We welcome good-faith security research that helps protect this national service. If you discover a vulnerability:
- Report it promptly and privately to security@osprenigeria.gov.ng — do not disclose it publicly before we have addressed it;
- Do not access, modify or exfiltrate data beyond the minimum needed to demonstrate the issue;
- Do not degrade service, and do not use the finding for any other purpose.
Researchers acting in good faith within these bounds will not be pursued by OSPRE for the disclosure itself.
Automated Access & Rate Limits
Automated access must respect the platform's protections. Do not bypass rate limits, CAPTCHAs, or access controls; do not run bots, crawlers or scripts that place an unreasonable load on the platform; and use any programmatic interface only as documented and authorised. We may throttle, block, or revoke access that threatens platform stability or security.
Consequences of Violation
We may, at our discretion and without notice, remove content, restrict, suspend or terminate access, block addresses, and take technical or legal measures to protect the platform, its users, and national security. Serious or unlawful violations may be reported to law-enforcement or relevant authorities. These measures are in addition to any rights under our Terms of Use and applicable law.
Reporting Abuse & Contact
To report misuse of the platform, abusive content, or a security concern, contact us at security@osprenigeria.gov.ng (security matters) or info@osprenigeria.gov.ng. We may update this AUP from time to time; the “Last updated” date above reflects the current version.
